Canadian Community Web Host

It seems there is no Community hosting company in Canada whereas this kind of service is quite widespread in France.
Well, when I say that "there is no Community hosting company in Canada", I'm probably going to get a few person screaming at me. A single look here: Freenets and you'll see that there is an extensive offer of free, community networks. According to this site, there is also no such concept in France. If one is looking for free service, this might be true although a lot of the sites mentionned there do not seem to exist anymore.
However, when talking about Community Web Host, I more referring to services such as Ouvaton or peewi, both Not For Profit Cooperatives. The service is not exactly fee, although at respectively EUR12 and EUR25 per year they remain very cheap.
Their offer is very similar: domain and web hosting, webmail, database... with Apache, PHP and MYSQL in the back end. The big difference between both is storage space and traffic: 20MB of storage, 600MB of monthly traffic and only 1 SQL database for Ouvaton against 150MB of storage and 10GB of monthly traffic with an unlimited number of databases for peewi.
One big plus for Ouvaton: the possibility to test their service for 30 days before deciding to spend any money. I haven't found anything similar on Peewi's website.
Anyway, all this to say that I have not been able to find any similar service here in Canada. Talking about it with a friend of mine, we got the idea that, maybe, we should try to start a cooperative web hosting effort.
I will keep you posted as, if, we progress.
